How much life insurance do you need?

A calculator and the logic supporting it: how many years of income, what debts remain, education needs, and coverage you currently have.

A straightforward approach: total what your paycheck would have supported, then deduct what's already covered. Precision isn't essential here; life insurance comes in round-dollar increments, and the aim is a sum that stabilizes your family's life during the critical years.

Coverage estimate

$1,765,000

Estimate = (income × years) + debts + education − existing coverage, rounded to the nearest $5,000. This calculation is a reference point, not professional guidance.

Why those inputs

Income years. Most financial advisors work with 10 to 20 years; your answer depends on how long your dependents would be in need. Many Baldwin Park households with young children pick toward the upper end because child care, housing, and education expenses are all high simultaneously.

Debts. For most Baldwin Park families, the biggest is a mortgage balance. Coverage sufficient to pay it off gives your family the freedom to choose their next step without financial pressure.

Education. An estimated per-child amount in current money. It's simpler to factor it into your coverage now than to buy additional protection down the road.

What you have. Money in the bank, and employer-provided coverage. Workplace policies typically terminate when employment ends, so many people factor in only a fraction.

Once you've settled on a target, the quote tool shows monthly costs for 10- to 30-year periods across available carriers. Many buy above their estimate since the added cost per month is modest when you're younger.
